Reflection and The Medium Is The Message

Project Reflection:

My project has changed slightly over time, mostly due to time constraints as well as what looks good in theory versus what is actually aesthetically pleasing. Changing from paint-over rotoscoping to an almost traditional-animation tracing look to a combination of blending tracing and actual photos... it is an interesting process. And a lot of work.

Medium Is The Message:

One thing that comes to mind is the Mr. and Mrs. Beetle video. The content of the video and the medium were inseparable because stop motion animation was used in order to create the illusion of motion. One would not be able to emulate this effect with a live audience or with traditional video.

Another example that comes to mind is games/apps for smartphones, with the concept of touch ore involved now than it was in previous generations of technology. Direct user-to-interface interaction is encouraged and worked around, and therefore this would  not have the same effect in any other medium such as video or still images, no matter the content of the app/game.

Media as "A Prison Without Walls" is an interesting concept... Especially in the sense that the work/narrative exists inside of a strict set of rules/universes that it can not breach. But for the consumer, these same limitations do not exist and people as individuals are able to take a step back, and look at the work from a meta perspective and the context within this work exists.
