Sean Carroll - The Origin of The Universe and The Arrow of Time
In his lecture, Carroll argues that the origin of the universe, while it may not concern its inhabitants, has an evident impact on our lives each day. This is because time surrounds us and defines our existence, something which reflects the characteristics of the start and continuation of the universe. The two different aspects of time are repetition, where a time based activity repeats and can be measured, and change, which covers irreversible differences. Our ancestors observed repetition as a way to observe time through sun dials, and other astrological ways of measuring time. Because of this reliability and predictability, we have a standard for time. On the other hand, changing time can be observed with aging, once a human ages they can never reverse the process, our changes correspond to the passing of time.

This piece by Steven Pippin features two fax machines connected by a infinite sheet of paper. Time is employed by the infinite nature of the piece, no beginning or end can be noted with the paper. The piece is in constant repetition. All that is needed is for the two devices to be turned on. I personally like the pointless nature of the sculpture,  it transformed two functional objects into an endless loop. The minimalist nature, from the simple printers to the plain table puts the main focus on the action the piece. I feel it forces the viewer to question the true purpose of everyday objects, challenging our views on their functions.
